London Marathon

2010 Here We Come

Right, so 2010 is going to be the year of my third and final London Marathon. I have got a ballot place this year so I am not obliged to raise money for charity (I will be), so I can concentrate on getting myself a decent time. I’m going to put it out there that I would like to do this marathon in sub 4:30. If I write it down in the public domain, then it will help me focus.

Instead of the daily ‘technical’ update with distance, time, HR etc (which is boring and only of any real use to me) I’ll update weekly with the highs and lows of long distance training in London.

Until then.

And so 2010 is the year. My entry is in and all being well I should be getting my guaranteed place having had 5 consecutive rejections.

A little warm up will be in October with the Royal Parks Half. Best I get running then…

Aim of the Game: Run final London Marathon in April 09.

7 January 2009

Official confirmation that I didn’t get a place in the marathon. Boo. 2010 it will have to be.

6 January 2009

Still waiting to hear if I’ve got a place…

4 January 2009

5.15 miles :: 60 mins :: 761 cals :: MHR 186 (99%) :: AHR 174 (93%)

London :: Home-DulwichPark-PeckhamRyePark-Home :: Not a bad run at all. Bit slow, but that will improve. Do think I need to research my HR though, as it is very high! Really starting to get into the Marathon headspace now. Will know in a couple of days if I have my place.

3 January 2009

Happy New Year! I hear in the next few days if I have a place with MND association, but in the meantime I have been trying to pick up my running. Hasn’t gone brilliantly, but not too bad. Feeling fairly good. Am just going to jot down my last few runs, so we can keep track…

02/01/09

1.93 miles :: 22 mins :: 260 cals :: Max HR 179 (95%) :: Ave HR 167 (89%)

London :: Home-Denmark Hill Station-Home loop :: Not a great run to be honest, but hey ho, you can’t win them all.

29/12/08

3.82 miles :: 45 mins :: 568 cals :: Max HR 187 (99%) :: Ave HR 174 (93%)

Shropshire :: Home-Plaish-Home loop :: Good run, hill was a bit of a challenge but good.

27/12/08

3.43 miles :: 40 mins :: 506 cals :: Max HR 186 (99%) :: Ave HR 174 (93%)

Shropshire :: home to Gordon’s farm and back. Bloody cold, but overall not a bad run.

25 December 2008

OK, so here is what it is all about. I have run 2 London Marathons already – 2005 and 2007. For some reason I want to do one more before I hang up my running shoes for good. So the plan is to do 2009. I haven’t got a ballot place unfortunately, so will hopefully be running for charity again. I will hear on 5/6 January whether I have a place or not.

In the meantime, I have kind of started running again but have been rudely busy at work so haven’t done nearly as much as I would have liked by this point. So for the next 2 weeks this will be my focus. Boxing day tomorrow, will be heading out for a run in the morning despite all the wine drunk today! I’ll let you know how I get on. TTFN.
